SOLOGNOT SHEEP

Ovis Aries

Family: Bovidae

Origin: France (Soulogne and Berry)

Lifespan: 12 to 15 years

Reproduction: After 5 months of maternity, the female (Ewe) gives birth to 1 or 2 young per year called lambs.

Nutrition diet: Herbivore (grass, hay and cereals…)

Description: The Solognot sheep is a very rustic breed; it can live outside all year round. Its character is closer to the goat than the sheep and it has no horns. In 1850, 300 000 of these sheep could have been seen but with the increase of technology and new agricultural activities this breed is on the decline, as of today only 3000 exist.
