Lifespan: 18 years

Reproduction: After 8 months of gestation the female gives birth to a single offspring called a calf

Nutrition diet: Herbivore (grass, plants and cereals…)

Description: The red deer is the biggest wild mammal in France. It can weigh upto 200kg and the female upto 120kg. During the rut in mid-october, the stag roars and goes into violent fights to possess female (doe) herds. Stags lose their antlers every year in May.
