OUESSANT’S SHEEP

Origin: Island of Ouessant

Lifespan: 12 to 15 years

Reproduction: After 5 months of maternity, the female (Ewe) gives birth to 1 or 2 young per year called lambs.

Nutrition diet: Herbivore (grass, hay and cereals…)

Description: From all of its 45cm and 15kg it is often called the dwarf sheep: It is the smallest ovine breed and is often black but can also be white, ginger or brown. The ram is quite a fighter towards its pairs and can be agressive. In 1852 the island counted 6000 sheeps, extinction is considered done in 1970 but thanks to people passionated by them the breed survived.
