EMU

Dromaius novaehollandiae

Family: Dromaiidae

Origin: Australia

Lifespan: 15 to 20 years

Reproduction: The nest holds 10 eggs and the incubation period lasts 8 weeks.

Nutrition diet: Omnivore (seeds, plants, roots, fruits, insects…)

Description: The Australian emu is the only dromaiidae species still alive today. When the couple is formed, the male makes the nest, broods and takes care of the young. He will stay with the young for 7 months, but the survival of the eggs is at high risk because of the predators: half of the eggs will not become adults.
